Home, sweet home.

British designer Kit Kemp, who years ago set in motion her most personal project with Firmdale, a charming Boutique Hotels in London and New York, takes care of every detail in the decoration to make her guests feel at home. "I try to create a feeling of curiosity, adventure, functionality and comfort, so guests want to move in and make it their home for a few days," says Kit Kemp.

A hotel must reflect the lifestyle of the person who choose it. Each of the seven hotels of Firmdale are decorated with an unique design and none of its rooms are the same, having been individually designed to accommodate many different tastes but with elegance and comfort for all of them. ” The hotel should suit the clothes you wear and the music you listen to, but most of all be comfortable. Hotels should reflect where you are but with that added element of glamour.”

Kit Kemp changes periodically the decoration of the Hotels, so regular clients always have the feeling of arriving at a new place. ”We have a large percentage of return guests and so I am forever changing design schemes in the hotels. Guests love to see the hotels moving along. It's so nice when they get involved. There is great interaction for everyone when the walls move, colours change and flowers look different.”

The use of light and color is really important, especially in London and New York, where the weather and many raining days always determine a decorating project. ”I would always recommend working with the lighting as much as possible. Remember light can be a rare commodity in London and New York. I'd love to do a white interior but colours just come bubbling out.”

Art is one of her main inspiration, Kit Kemp is a lover of artists such as Fernando Botero, Tony Crag and Jaume Plensa, influencing their work in each of her jobs.

Inside the rooms, the bed is a really very important piece to make you feel at home. ”It is so important to invest in a good bed. It is all about a good nights sleep and in hotels people want that super king size that they might not have at home, even if they are alone.”

Good lighting, careful space, flowers and art pieces, as well as good quality materials and fabrics, offer an excellent final result when we want to show our clients elegance and confort rooms. A formulate that Kit Kemp has interpreted successfully.
