Dialogue between Past and Present Tweet
The goal of architect Shaun Lockyer and the team at Arkhefield Architects has been to transform ”the typical Quesland house” in ruins, located in Villiers, Australia, into a spectacular contemporary construction which would also emphasize the Nature that surrounds it.
The house’s design is based on a natural architecture, with an interesting dialogue between the new and the old. It maintains details of yesterday with more innovative fabrics, dressing the house up with an urban minimalism that also plays with the essence of the old residence, which has been kept as best as possible.
The great cottage has twice as much height and depth, and the rooms open up to the outside and the nature of the area, turning it into a perfect family home.
With this construction, architect Shaun Lockyer shows his great ability to bet on pure and contemporary design without ignoring the importance of details from the past.
A palette of soft whites contrasts with the dark wood chosen to give warmth to the floor. The ever-elegant colour black reigns in the furniture throughout the whole house, and as a result, it looks fresh, calm and sophisticated. Perfect for a family life full of cheerful moments.
