Reinterpreting past time

Stephen Knollenberg is inspired by the refined culture and image of the decade of the twenties to conceive an "elegant but comfortable home" home.

The house, located in the small and charming town of Birmingham, Michigan, has 15 rooms situated on four floors and is approximately 9000 square feet. Its architecture follows the classic American Colonial style, completely respected by the interior designer, who shows his mastery maintaining the charm of the past while combining it with a contemporary aesthetic.

"I worked to give the interiors a fresh, more modern and edited interpretation while still acknowledging the period details of the home," says Stephen Knollenberg.

Knollenberg achieves a classic sobriety using both tradition and novelty: "This was accomplished in part by selecting a mix of antiques, a pair of 1920's Swedish hall chairs for example, and contemporary furnishings that share both clean lines and classic silhouettes." This discreet and subtle balance can be seen throughout this splendid interior.

As a result, we see a project with timeless and serene rooms where each element is unique but shares a common thread, thereby creating an updated version of classic elegance for this home.
