Elegance and tranquility Tweet
In this New York apartment overlooking Central Park, White Webb designed a space of elegance and tranquility. With Art Deco overtones, the apartment design also incorporates ancient art and an 18th century Italian painting, all against sleek, masculine backgrounds.
The entrance hall has limestone floors, a silk portiere and an antique table made of bronze. The designers commissioned the ceiling mural in the oval, raised ceiling which depicts the zodiac.
In the living room, designers created an Art Deco-style fireplace in limestone. Instead of a sofa, four club chairs face each other to create a comfortable space for entertaining on an intimate scale.
Mirrored niches, custom wall sconces and an antique sculpture of St Sebastian are surrounded by simple textures and colors ranging from sage to olive to cream.
The dining room is a darker space with the walls upholstered in a deep olive green velvet. The gilded art-deco chandelier shines over a simple glass-topped table surrounded by four neo-classic chairs in the same fabric. An enormous painting creates a view in a room that has none.
The bedroom is crisp and fresh with everything in clean, bright white. Over the bed is an installation of 1940's clocks, creating an elegant, yet humorous tableau.
In short, a wonderful apartment with an overall effect of chic and urban calm.
