Between heaven and earth Tweet
Australian architect Shaun Lockyer joins Nature and the comfort of modern life in his most personal project: his residence in Australia. “The Lockyer House is a small, contemporary extension onto a post war house in Bardon, a heavily treed and hilly fringe suburb in Brisbane,” says the architect.
Lockyer has skilfully managed using natural resources of the region in order to create a sustainable and functional environment, transforming the housing with all the amenities able to satisfy the needs of a young family.
”The design of this house is all about creation of a simple, cost effective pod that needed to accommodate the needs of a young family that had outgrown the original cottage. The other core function of the extension was to improve the connection to the landscape, engage with the sky and to provide a more climatically comfortable place to live, using the minimum resources possible to achieve this”.
The main material is wood, playing with it outdoors and indoors, getting the environment part of everyday life. The rooms are decorated in a young and minimalist style that increases the space, using only unique pieces that endure over time.
Water and sun are vital in this design and take on a presence for themselves. The Architect designed large windows to let these two elements come into the home, strengthening the desire to enjoy Nature in their everyday life. A house where everything seems to be consistent: old and new, natural and modern life, earth and heaven.
